Happy Fourth of July ... fireworks tonight at dusk in Mills Park. Train rides at the Nevada State Railroad Museum. Family barbecues, swimming, parades, flags flying ... you name it. Fun for all, but, while you're at it, remember our service men and women who still are protecting our freedoms.

There's a great show in the Maizie Harris Jesse Theatre (?) at the Brewery Arts Center. It's all about the art of skateboards. Some are funny, some are creative, some gorgeous, some are ... well, they just "are." Put together by Eleanor and Ricket of Ruby Lanterns (883-8282), it's a chance to see some art where you least expect it. The show is free, and runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday through July 10. And, while you're at it, have lunch at the Artisan's Cafe. We met a nice man at ZBistro the other day, Scott Sulprizio, who discussed baseball with us. We're such experts, we're sure he learned a lot (right).

There is a Fourth of July concert at St. Teresa's Catholic Church with the "Andrews Sisters", to be sung by Terri, Haley and Cherie. Everyone is invited to bring a dessert to share. They open at 6:30 p.m., concert at 7:15, and watch the fireworks from their lawn. It would be a good idea to bring your own chair or blanket, too.

Theatre Camp will begin tomorrow at the BAC (883-1976); $125 per student ages 6-16. It lasts until July 23. Lots of fun. Happy birthdays to Mike Ryan, Dianne Williams, Pegee Haman, Luke Pusich, Sister Marie McGloin, Kaleo Fuller, Sue Pickrell, and happy anniversary to Sarah and Kurt Garrett (phew, July is a busy month). There are also concerts on Friday nights at the CC Mall, and at 3rd St. Enjoy.

We noticed at The Firkin & Fox that the girls are wearing cute red plaid skirts. Now, we want to know why Sean and the boys aren't wearing cute red kilts? IMWTK. Thanks to Trisha Murphy for donating some beautiful costumes to Proscenium Players. Speaking of them, PPI will have its annual meeting at 6 p.m. July 14 at Pat and Dave Jostens. Adele's and the BAC are having a wonderful event on July 14 with the Sons of Champlin featured in Adele's parking lot. It's $35 for general admission, and $60 for premium seating and includes yummy hors d'oeuvres. Silent auction at 5:30 p.m., with the concert at 7:30. There also is an auction for "chair-ity" (local folks have designed one-of-a-kind chairs to be auctioned off for the Greenhouse Project that benefits Carson High School's greenhouse). Other goodies: The Jazz Guys and Kenn Pettiford will be playing at Comma Coffee, 8-10 p.m. July 13. Admission is $5; under 18 free. The First Christian Church Car Show (First Christian Church, or Christian Church's first car show, never mind) will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 10 at Johnny Rockets near the Carson Lanes Bowling Alley. Call Mac at 871-2524 for info. And, if you donate blood at United Blood Services (887-9111) before Sept. 4, you will be entered into a drawing for a new Toyota Corolla, and doing a good deed as well.
