High Court workers won't take furloughs

(AP) - The Nevada Supreme Court won't require its staff to take an unpaid furlough day each month as other state workers are doing to save money.

At an administrative meeting Tuesday, court officials told justices that furloughs aren't needed in the first quarter of the fiscal year that started July 1 because savings have been met through other cuts and elimination of vacant positions.

Administrators say those savings more than offset the 4.6 percent salary reduction furloughs were designed to achieve.

Justices say they'll reconsider the need again after September.

All state agencies under the direction of the governor's office are required to take a day of unpaid leave each month.
