(AP) - An attorney with experience in insurance regulation has been named Nevada's new insurance commissioner.

The appointment of Brett J. Barratt was announced Wednesday by Dianne Cornwall, director of the Depart-ment of Business & Industry.

Barratt began working with the division as the insurance counsel and hearing officer in 1995. He became chief insurance assistant in last year and has served as action commissioner since June.

Barratt is a graduate of the Michigan University College of Law and is a member of the Nevada State Bar's insurance and health law section.

He replaces Scott Kipper, who resigned last month.
