Summer masquerade is a benefit for Piper's Opera House

Piper's Summer Masquerade, scheduled for 7-11p.m. July 10, will benefit the preservation efforts of Piper's Opera House in Virginia City,

This is an adult-only costume event featuring live music by The Mount Rose Trio with Freddie Pierce, Jimmy Vermilion and Danny Steele along with Gus the Dance Master.

There will be a costume contests and masks for sale at the event.

Cost of benefit is $18 at the door, which includes appetizers and desserts. A cash bar will be available.

New swing dance class to start

High Sierra Swing Dance Club, as a co-production with Brewery Arts Center, presents a four-week series of dance lessons, Wednesdays starting July 7, at the BAC Grand Ballroom, 449 W. King St., Carson City.

Greg Froberg will teach West Coast swing basics from 6-7:30 p.m. and WCS techniques, 7:30-9 p.m. No partner is necessary.

Rhapsody in Tahoe Blue concerts begin

TOCCATA is kicking off its Big Blue Summer MusicFest on Friday. Musicians and singers come from the Carson Valley, Reno, and Lake Tahoe.

The Big Blue Summer MusicFest, which begins with Rhapsody in Tahoe Blue - a Celebration of American Music, includes music for everyone.

Rhapsody in Tahoe Blue features Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" and Copland's "Hoe Down" from "Rodeo," and other pieces.

TOCCATA will introduce New York soprano, Melody Moore to Northern Nevada audiences. Resident composer Fahad Siadat will premiere a new work for soloists and orchestra.

Concert in the series are at 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in South Lake Tahoe; 7 p.m. Saturday at Cal Neva Resort in Crystal Bay; 7 p.m. Tuesday, at First Methodist Church in Reno; 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Hawkins Amphitheater at Bartley Ranch; and 5 p.m. July 10 in Squaw Valley Chapel.

The concerts on July 6 at the Reno First Methodist Church and July 10 at Squaw Valley Chapel are free. All donations at the door will benefit the host churches.  

Tickets for other concerts are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, (62 and up), and $5 for students with a valid student ID. Children under 12 are free with a paying adult. Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.ToccataTahoe.com or at the door.
