Robert D. Gast was born Aug. 23, 1946, in Kansas City, Mo., and passed away on Oct. 8, 2010, in Carson City. He was 64 years old. Robert was the son of Roberta and Florent Gast who preceded him in death. Robert is survived by his brother James L. Gast of Reno; his brother William J. Gast of Topeka, Kan.; his sister Mary Elizabeth Ruthenbeck of Sacramento, Calif.; six nephews and two great-nephews.

Robert grew up in Paola, Kan., and has lived in Nevada for the past 40 years. He has been an employee of Carson Station Casino for the last 11 years. Robert loved adventure and traveling and had visited many countries around the world. He loved all sports and could talk for hours about any team or player in any sport. Robert could also carry on very passionate discussions regarding political issues and political figures. Robert lived his life on his own terms and always acted from his heart. He enjoyed the love and friendship of his family and many friends. He is remembered by all who have known him for his quiet demeanor, his trustworthiness, and his easy style of making you feel comfortable.

Robert's family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center for making him so comfortable in his last hours. The family would also like to thank Robert's coworkers at Carson Station Casino for their kind concern and prayers. Robert may no longer be a part of our daily lives but he will always be in our hearts. A private family memorial service will be held. Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
