Louis Richard Doescher, 67, of Carson City, passed away on October 4, 2010, at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle. With him were his wife Jan, daughter Kasey, and son Jason.

Lou was born in Gary, Indiana on July 19, 1943, to Louis William and Helen Mikuta Doescher. He and his older sister Sylvia spent their childhood years on a farm in Dyer, Indiana. After graduating from high school, Lou served in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he attended the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater, graduating in 1968. He then went on to Chicago-Kent College of Law where he received a J.D. in 1971. After serving in the Carson City District Attorney's Office, Lou entered private practice and became a respected member of the legal community.

He loved the outdoors and testing his physical endurance. Whether completing seemingly impossible bicycle rides such as the Markleeville Death Ride or Paris-Brest-Paris, or summiting mountain peaks like Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Whitney, Lou never backed down from a challenge. He and Jan were fortunate to have traveled worldwide. Family and friends will miss his delectable cooking, his wit and insightful discussions at Book Club, and his kind and compassionate nature.

Lou's greatest love and joy was his family. He was a solid foundation of love and integrity, both as a husband and as a father.

He is survived by Jan, his wife of 25 years; daughter Kasey Maxfield (Adam), Boise, Idaho; son Jason (Alyse), Tega Cay, S.C.; grandchildren Chase, Grant, Blake, Gabriel, Matthew, Madison, Isaac, and Maia; sister Sylvia Hansen (Dennis), Schererville, Indiana; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and beloved Lab "Kelley." He was preceded in death by his parents and son Ryan.

A memorial Mass was held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Seattle on October 5. A celebration of Lou's life will be held on December 4, 2010, in Carson City. Specific time and location will be posted on caringbridge.org/visit/loudoescher after arrangements have been made.
