Head-on crash victim identified

The motorcycle rider who was killed in a three-vehicle accident Friday night on Highway 395 South has been identified as James Kevin Montez, 37, of Carson City.

The Nevada Highway Patrol reports that around 10:05 p.m., troopers were called out to a head-on collision involving two vehicles and a motorcycle north of the intersection of Clearview Drive in the southbound travel lanes.

The driver of a silver Mercury van, Kevin Ward Massey Jr., 18, from Carson City was traveling north on Highway 395 with two other occupants when he crossed into the southbound lane, striking a red Mitsubishi driven by Merry Susan Rillston, 66, from Livermore, Calif.

The van continued north in the southbound lanes and hit a red motorcycle driven by Montez, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two juveniles in the van suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Three ambulance helicopters transported accident victims to Renown Regional Medical Center. Their conditions are not known at this time.

The southbound lanes of Highway 395 were closed for three hours while emergency crews investigated the accident, which occurred just north of Clearview Drive near Taco Bell and Wendy's.
