A Yerington motorcyclist was killed Monday afternoon after a dump truck failed to stop at an intersection, according the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Michael R. Leonard, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene about 4:45 p.m. on Highway 95 Alternate near Penrose Lane, nine miles north of Yerington.

According to Trooper Chuck Allen, Douglas J. Scronce, 28, of Fallon was driving a white dump truck west on Penrose Lane when he failed to stop at the stop sign to Highway 95 Alternate.

Leonard, on a 1986 Kawasaki motorcycle, was northbound on the highway and was unable to avoid the dump truck as it crossed into his path, said Allen.

The motorcycle deflected off the truck, and Leonard was thrown from his bike.

Scronce was not injured.

According to Allen, a complete safety and mechanical inspection will be completed on the truck, as well as a close look at

the qualifications of the driver.

Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation, said Allen.
