Who is Governor? Some hold that Frank Bell, being Lieutenant Governor, should become acting Governor by reason of Governor Stevenson's death, but owing to a Constitutional provision, cannot draw his salary. (Frank Bell was born in Canada.)

Kings Canyon development - Ernest Sweetland, Carson City native with extensive property interests, announced the purchase of the remaining 49 lots of King's Canyon for development.

New Safeway Store on North Carson Street will officially open according to manager Ted Ellis, marking a major step forward in 30 years of local Safeway marketing. Old timers place the beginning of Safeway in the old adobe building at the corner of Telegraph and Carson streets sometime after 1927.

The State Museum's textile department features a fundraiser called "Costumes of the American West: 1850-1975" narrative by museum Curator of Clothing Jan Loverin - featuring clothing from the museum's collection ranging from the bustle to the bell bottom.

10 YEARS AGO

Gov. Kenny Guinn says "Nevada should prohibit the use of water for any nuclear waste storage site in the state." The comments followed a federal court ruling that the department's request for ground water permits for Yucca Mountain be handled in a state court.
