Two men were injured Wednesday evening in a motorcycle accident on Geiger Grade.

According to Trooper Chuck Allen, Timothy Knight was southbound a 1981 Honda motorcycle just before 8 p.m. with brother Donald Knight, 43, as a passenger, when he lost control in a turn near Lousetown Road on the winding mountain pass.

Allen said the motorcycle struck the guardrail, throwing both men. The brothers, each suffering "severe right leg injuries," were taken by helicopter to the trauma center in Reno.

Allen said alcohol and excessive speed are considered to be two contributing factors in this crash.

Witnesses, or anyone with information, are encouraged to contact Trooper Kris Satterwhite of the Major Accident Investigation Team at (775) 689-4682 regarding crash # NHP-1108172017.

Just before the Geiger Grade crash, troopers were on the scene of a non-injury rollover crash on Highway 50 East in Mound House. In that accident, Melissa Chiffon Carbiener, 34, of Dayton, was westbound in a Nissan Xterra about 7:25 p.m. when she collided with the rear of a westbound tractor-trailer driven by Richard Vincent Cole of Pahrump.

The impact sent the XTerra rolling onto its side and sliding to a stop in the lanes.

Carbiener was uninjured. She reportedly told troopers the sun was in her eyes and she did not see the tractor-trailer "until it was too late."

Carbiener was cited for failure to use due care.
