The President Shot: President Garfield was stepping on board the train this morning at the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad depot when a man stepped up and fired two gunshots, injuring him.

Much Ado, etc: The people of Carson and the press of the State seem considerably stirred up over a row between the Appeal and the V. & T. R.R. Mr. Yerington has ordered all employees of the shops to cease taking the Appeal, not one order from any individual paper has been requested to end. Mr. Yerington stops the Appeal about once a year in a moment of temporary mental aberration and realizing the lowliness of his situation he re-subscribes.

Baby Market: The Legislative Counsel Bureau was authorized to study adoption laws of other states and draw up a model code for Nevada. The unanimous vote followed the presentation of a report prepared by investigator Ernest Mitler on Nevada's so-called baby black market, outlining cases of the sale of infants, for as much as $4,000 each in Carson City, Sparks and Reno.

20 YEARS AGO

The postal service issued a commemorative stamp to honor the men and women who served in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. "The Postal Service is proud to pay tribute to those who answered our country's call ..." according to Anthony M. Frank, Postmaster General.

10 YEARS AGO

Ten thousand spectators are expected to watch the 4th of July celebration. "They'll be all over town," said Janice Ayres, director of the RSVP. The fireworks will be launched from Carson High School and can be seen from Mills Park.
