130 YEARS AGO

Preaching in prison: During the past few nights there has been considerable religious revival going on in the county Jail. Jones, the forger, led the affair and acted as exhorter, Mr. Pritchard, the slayer of Symons, sang the hymns, and a couple of Elko burglars also took an active role. The congregation consisted of vagrants and opium smokers.

120 YEARS AGO

The Wheelmen (bicycle club): The Wheelmen masquerade will draw an excellent crowd, as the young men have gone to considerable expense to make the affair a success. The boys have a genuine surprise in store for all who attend in masque.

70 YEARS AGO

Births: A baby boy was born to Mrs. R. B. Jensen at Mrs. Litton's private hospital. The baby's father is employed at Anderson's Market.

50 YEARS AGO

1960 Census: A niece or nephew of Uncle Sam will be knocking at your door. Some of the questions posed by the census taker will center about "confidential" family finances.

20 YEARS AGO

V&T Railroad shop: The city will comply with two out of three conditions made by the owner of the V&T Railroad shop in order to postpone the wrecking ball until April. This will allow safety inspection, and public and media tours.

10 YEARS AGO

Tribal casinos: California overwhelmingly decided to double and triple the number of slot machines in tribal casinos.
