State board revokes Carson City construction company's license

The Nevada State Contractors Board has revoked the licenses of three Northern Nevada contractors.

A fourth contractor was fined by the state agency.

The licenses of Scully Steel Construction LLC of Carson City and Newell Roofing Inc. of Sparks were revoked after the board found the companies failed to establish financial responsibility.

The license of Coca Electric Co. of Wells was revoked after the board found the company failed to establish good character and failed to establish financial responsibility.

Monge Construction of Minden was fined $250, and the company was told to obtain a new bond and provide a financial statement. The company's license will be suspended if the company fails to comply, the contractors board said.

Art studios opening in Carson City

Two fine-arts businesses - Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery and the working studio of artist Deana Hoover - are opening in Carson City.

Owned by Jeffrey Pace and Gabriel Aguayo, Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery is at 220 A W. Telegraph St.

Hoover's studio, where visitors see work in progress, is at 108 W. Fourth St. Her work also will be sold at Artsy Fartsy.

Nevadans top list for credit card delinquency

Nevadans have the highest rate of credit card delinquency in the nation - 1.16 percent - a recent quarterly trends report by TransUnion finds. The Chicago-based financial services company defines delinquency as 90 or more days late on credit card payments.

Economic indicators from the U.S. Department of Commerce

New orders for manufactured durable goods in April 2011 decreased 3.6 percent to $189.9 billion. Excluding transportation, new orders fell 1.5 percent. Overall shipments declined 1.0 percent to $194.9 billion. Capital goods shipments fell 1.9 percent. Unfilled orders rose 0.2 percent. And inventories increased 0.9 percent in April 2011

SBA now offering smart phone app

The U.S. Small Business Administration is now offering a smart phone app.

Developed and donated as a gift by Palo Alto Software Inc., the SBA mobile app will make the search for resources more efficient, whether users are starting a new business or taking an existing business to a new level.

The app will first be available for the Apple iPhone, with future versions for other smart phone platforms.

The mobile app will help users connect with SBA district office staff and SBA-affiliated counselors and mentors who can provide free, personalized small business assistance.

The app also features a built-in startup cost calculator to help estimate the costs associated with getting a business off the ground, plus an SBA partner locator to help users find SBA offices, Small Business Development Centers, Women's Business Centers and SCORE.
