PREP: Incline girls overtake Dayton

The Dayton girls varsity basketball team took a 5-point lead into the fourth quarter before a hot-shooting Incline team rallied for a 42-39 victory on Tuesday.

Incline poured in three 3-pointers during the fourth quarter as the Highlanders outscored Dayton 12-5 in the final frame.

Sophomore Cora Mebius led Dayton with nine points and 18 rebounds. Maribel Ledezma added eight points and five steals, Taylor Hill added eight points, six rebounds and three steals and Gemma Ramirez added eight points.

"They were shooting it up and we were missing our shots at the end, that was the difference," said coach Cliff Serawop.

Dayton, 0-1, plays at the Fernley Classic against Sparks at 6 p.m. Friday.


Sierra Lutheran falls

to South Tahoe

Sierra Lutheran fell 38-25 to South Tahoe's junior varsity Tuesday night. Tiffany Patrick led the team with 15 points, including four 3-pointers.

Cali Benton had four points, Natalie Echeverria added three, Karina Young had two and McKinze Tynes had one.

Patrick had 14 rebounds, six steals and two blocks. Tynes and Amy Westre each grabbed seven rebounds. Young had four steals, Benton had three steals and Tynes had two.

Leanna Temple had six assists for the Falcons.


BOYS BASKETBALL

SL falls to Tahoe

The Sierra Lutheran boys' basketball team kept things close with South Tahoe's junior varsity squad Tuesday night before the Vikings held off a late rally from the Falcons to claim a 44-38 win.

Sierra Lutheran got 13 points from Alex Borgman and eight points from Carson Iverson. Iverson also hit a pair of 3-pointers.

Kody Miller had six points, Michael Patrick had five, Scott Johnson had three and Conner Love added two for the Falcons.


JV BOYS BASKETBALL

Huskies cruise past Carson

Zach Puzey scored 22 points and Kyle Mahaffe added 16 to lead Reno to a 68-52 season-opening win over Carson.

Austin Shaffer and Alan Cohen led Carson with eight, while Gehrig Tucker added seven.


JV GIRLS BASKETBALL

Dust Devils storm Incline

The Dayton High JV girls team got off to a fast start Tuesday night rolling to a 54-12 win at Incline.

Cheyanne Strong, a freshman, came off the bench to score 12 second half points for the Dust Devils.

Lettie Lynch added 10 points, Taylor Ingersol and Ashley Sandy added eight points. Dayton had 10 of its 12 players score.

Dayton (1-0) plays Friday at the Pershing County JV tournament against Battle Mountain. The Dust Devils also will play two games on Saturday.


Reno holds off Carson

The Huskies withstood a late rally by Carson to grab a 45-38 win at Carson.

Gina Peacock led Carson with 12 points. While Natalie Salas added nine and Carly Bachman five. Kayla Aikins had 12 steals for the Senators.

BASKETBALL

Huskies tip Carson boys

RENO - Cameron Price scored 14 points, but the Senators still dropped a 40-37 decision to Reno.

Ross Dagdagan added 12 points and Kyle Steele nine in a losing effort. Erick Jacquez was praised for a strong defensive game.


Carson girls roll to win

RENO - Maddie Preston scored 19 points to lead Carson to a 46-20 win over Reno.

Michelle Perry added nine and Natalie Young eight in the rout.
