Prep Roundup: Carson tops Damonte in soccer

Jason Martinez scored two goals to give Carson a 2-1 win over Damonte Ranch Wednesday night in boys soccer action.

About five minutes after Damonte took a 1-0 lead, Martinez scored his first goal when Johnny Guevara took the ball at midfield made a pass to Martinez who went around the Damonte keeper for the goal.

The game stayed deadlocked until about the 50th minute when Martinez was taken down an awarded a penalty kick. He converted for the game-winner.

Coach Eric Masters was pleased with the result as rains made the field slick. He was happy with his defense and midfield play.

Marco Magallon was solid in goal for Carson to earn the win.

Carson, 7-1-2, plays at Hug on Saturday.


Douglas tops Wooster

The Douglas boys soccer team pulled eight points ahead of Wooster for the final playoff spot with a 2-1 victory on Wednesday.

Both of the Tigers' goals were scored by Jaden Mustacchio. Emilio Magana had an assist for the Tigers.

In the JV game, Wooster won 3-1. Giovanni Baltazar-Hernandez scored on a goal by Emanuel Montoya.

Douglas plays at Spanish Springs on Friday with JV action starting at 5 p.m.


GOLF

Carson takes second

Carson finished second at Wednesday's match at Arrowcreek. The Senators finished with a 384 team score. Manogue was first at 370 and Douglas was third at 391.

Leading Carson was Heather Evans with an 86, good enough for third place. Ali Vondrak carded a 96 and Kristen Good shot 99 followed by Callen Aten with a 103.

Coach Jeff Rispin said Evans has been the Senators' steadiest player lately. He added the Vondrak carded a 96 after shooting a 53 on the front and improving by 10 strokes on the second nine.

Carson played with five players after Heather Justice withdrew with an injury.

Carson next plays at Regionals which begin at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Empire Ranch.


VOLLEYBALL

Dayton falls in four

The Dayton volleyball team dropped a 3A match at Lovelock Wednesday night. Dayton lost 19-25, 22-25, 25-22 and 15-25.

Leading Dayton was Madison Foley with four assists, 13 kills, three blocks and four digs; Ashley Hill added 11 digs; Taryn Schriner had an ace, two kills, six blocks and two digs; Ashley Vickers added two aces, three kills and seven digs; Erin Edison added four kills and five blocks; Cora Jeffreys added 20 assists, an ace and five digs; Cassandra Depew had a kill and nine blocks.

Dayton plays Silver Stage on Friday starting at 4 p.m. The 6-4 Dust Devils host Reed on Saturday starting at 11 a.m.


Yerington sweeps Fernley

Yerington continued its winning ways with a 25-11, 25-16 and 25-13 win at home against Fernley.

Leading Yerington was Makenna Lommori with 20 kills, 15 digs, two aces and 11 assists. Brooke Aiazzi added nine kills, nine digs and two digs. Savena Rogers added three aces and seven assists. Amber Veil added 13 digs.

Yerington 21-3 plays Friday at Fallon.
