The Carson City Sheriff's Office is investigating the discovery of a woman's body found down an embankment in the hills of East Carson City on Friday afternoon by a scrap metal hunter.

Officers were called out to the area 3 miles from Deer Run Road about 3:30 p.m. They found the woman's shoeless body about 90 feet down the embankment from the rugged dirt road. She was dressed in a tank top and tan capri pants.

Sheriff Ken Furlong said the woman had several injuries that appeared inconsistent with a fall from the road.

The woman, who appeared to be in her late 20s or early 30s, had no identification, Furlong said.

Detectives spent some four hours collecting evidence and racing against nightfall. By dark, they had found some people in a homeless encampment nearby who may have seen the woman earlier in the day.

Furlong said detectives would work through the night to try to identify her.

Carson City Sheriff's Search and Rescue was called to help collect the woman's remains.

An autopsy is planned for this morning in Reno. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Carson City Dispatch Center at 775-887-2011.
