Senior Follies, a musical revue rummaging into the American songbook, wowed audiences during the weekend and raised $8,000 or more for the Carson City Senior Meals Programs.
Janice McIntosh, director of the Carson City Senior Center, said the Senior Follies production was "real good" and reported the weekend tally at $8,400. But she said expenses might lower that for the fund-raiser.
"This is almost exactly what it was last year," she noted, praising the dedication and enthusiasm of the seniors who put on the show.
"They never cease to amaze me," she said. Her comment was echoed by others who saw the shows, which ran Friday and Saturday evening followed by a Sunday matinee.
"Those Delightful Decades," as the follies were called, ran the gamut of popular music from "Sweet Violets" of 1882 to "Blame It On Your Heart" from 1993.
Nearly every intervening decade was represented, but the 1950s and '60s seemed to predominate, accounting for 15 of the 36 numbers.
Examples from those years were "Rock Around the Clock" by Roger Germain and Donna McClelland, and "Crazy" by Ginny Delaski.
The show culminated with patriotic fare, including "God Bless the U.S.A.," done by the entire cast.
"It was extremely emotional," said McIntosh, who took in the opening night's performance.
