Obama bad business for U.S.I have been teaching economics for over 10 years. I have never seen an administration as hostile to free-market capitalism and the principles of economic liberty upon which this country was founded as that of Barack Obama. Uncertainty over future tax and regulatory policy has paralyzed businesses and dramatically slowed job creation. The one statistic I would like you to remember before you vote is that there hasn’t been one day during the entire Obama presidency when as many Americans were working as on the day President Bush left office. There, I said it. Nothing to do now but wait for Dr. Paslov to call me stupid in his next opinion piece about the need for civility in political discourse.James BathgateCarson CityStop subsidizing Big BirdGo into any department store, drugstore, shoe store, toy store, grocery store, discount store, quick market, furniture store or fast food joint. You will find a muppet for sale or used as advertisement. Free enterprise at its finest. All at a profit. So why are we subsidizing this very lucrative endeavor? Looks like the American taxpayer is getting the “Big Bird” again!Larry M. DobsonCarson CityObama misleading the countryThe American people are being misled. On Sept. 12, President Obama gave a speech in the Rose Garden about Benghazi. He did not call the attack an act of terrorism. He said, “No act of terror will ever shake the resolve of this great nation.” If he had, why did he go to the U.N. and Letterman and claim that the violence was the result of an anti-Muslim video? Why did Susan Rice, our U.N. ambassador, go on five Sunday talk shows and say it was in response to the video? Why did Secretary Clinton claim it was in response to this video? Our State Department watched the attack as it happened. Who is stroking who? Wake up, America.Laurence C. PedersonCarson City
