Youth Theatre Carson City will wrap up its first season of performances with a season-end showcase and fundraiser at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Carson City Community Center.
The celebration will include songs, dancing and music, with featured performances by Youth Theatre students including the Showstoppers touring performance choir.
The event is free, although donations will be accepted at the door. There will be a raffle and silent auction, an awards ceremony and refreshments.
“I’m very proud of these kids and all they’ve accomplished this year,” said Andie Anderson, theater company co-founder and artistic director. “We’re proud to give them a celebration for all the good work they’ve done.”
The company’s first season concluded recently with performances of “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella.” Other productions included “Aladdin and His Wonderful, Magical Lamp” and “The Wizard of Oz.”
“We’ve had around 200 kids this year, between the three productions and the show choir,” Anderson said.
“It’s going really well. We seem to be growing in every production we do, and the quality is growing with every production. It’s been a great experience this year.”
Sunday’s season celebration will include a presentation of awards to the young thespians based on what they’ve earned in the Production Points program. Points are earned by taking classes, as well as participating in shows with YTCC and other theater groups.
Three students have earned enough points to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, Anderson said. They are Taylor Barth, Taylor Koop and Sara Session.
The Youth Theatre students and staff will have a short break before gearing up for the second season.
Auditions for its summer production, “Once On This Island Jr.,” a Caribbean adaptation of “The Little Mermaid,” will take place June 15 and a weeklong acting workshop is being planned for early June.
