Carson Perspective: Deals bring life to North Carson Street; death knell to doldrums?

North Carson City business deals are popping, according to Andie Wilson of Coldwell Banker Commercial.

She cites several commercial real estate deals on the north side, saying that is better news than either none or 10.

None would continue north side malaise that plagued the area before, during and after the recession; double digit deals in a short time, Wilson said, would be unsustainable and signal too big a swing. These things take time, she said.

Wilson recounted the C-A-L Ranch store coming earlier to the north side in a former supermarket’s vacated space at 2035 N. Carson St., about which city residents already know.

Remarks on recent deals included a Jimmy John’s sub restaurant locating in an 1,800-square-foot outlet on the site of a 3,600- square-foot building where the India Curry restaurant had been. That is in the Hot Springs Center near Denny’s Restaurant, and the location is 2329 N. Carson St. A new structure will go in after the old building gets razed.

“Hopefully, this will be the first step to revitalizing this center,” said Wilson, a Coldwell Banker Commercial principal.

Anytime Fitness, already on the south side spot at 4530 S. Carson St., will open a Northgate Center location in the center anchored by Harbor Freight Tools, which is at 2749 N. Carson St.

Interior changes will accommodate fitness equipment and an exterior face-lift is expected. Mike Blasquez, Anytime Fitness, said he is excited at having a 5,700-square-foot north side location. He also may open a third later outside the city, but in the area.

Wilson said a deal by a different real estate agent brought High Sierra Copier Service to the former Custom Office Supply building at 2814 N. Carson St. Formerly the firm was in smaller space at 1907 N. Carson St.

Now, as Monty Python used to deadpan, for something completely different.

Yankee baseball stars Yogi Berra and Whitey Ford, playing golf once, approached the tee for their drives at a hole with a water hazard. Berra said he would likely go in the drink. Ford told him to think positively.

“OK,” replied Yogi, “I’m positive I’ll hit it into the water.”

Positive or negative, whatever happens regarding the Eagle Valley municipal golf complex controversy won’t be witnessed by this observer. It’s time to head for a party celebrating capitalism — billionaire Warren Buffett’s annual meeting for Berkshire Hathaway stock holders .
