Obituary: Janice Joan Hockenberry

1935 - July 27, 2013

Janice Joan Hockenberry, 77, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Banner Churchill Community Hospital in Fallon, NV after a prolonged illness. She was born in 1935 in Valley City, ND to Casper and Florence Brainard. Jan grew up in Valley City, North Dakota, and graduated from Valley City High School. She married James Hockenberry in 1953, and they just recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. She has lived her life in Oakes, ND, Britton, SD, and the last 30 years in Fallon , NV. She had six children and was a very busy homemaker.

Jan was preceded in death by her father, Casper Brainard; daughter, Cynthia Andrews, and grandson, Gannon Hockenberry-Grimes. Jan is survived by her husband, Dr. James Hockenberry of Fallon, NV; her mother, Florence Brainard; her sister, Joyce (Robert Larsen) Haugen; her brother, Jim (Mary) Brainard; her children, James (Betty) Hockenberry of Jerome, ID; Tim (Janeen) Hockenberry of Fallon, NV; Steven (Bill Todd) Hockenberry of Reno, NV; Heidi (Eric) Grimes of Fallon, NV; Heather (Shelby Clark) Hockenberry of Reno NV; son-in-law, Greg Andrews of Pocatello, ID; her grandchildren, Jessica, Melissa, Clay, Samantha, Tony, Andrew, Brandon, Meghan, Collin, Iliana, Gabriella, and Isabella; great-grandchildren, Monica and Kallie; and her loving nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives. A graveside memorial will be held on Thursday, Aug 15th at 10 am at the cemetery in Fallon, NV. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the American Red Cross. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home, 423-2255.
