100 Years Ago

One of the prettiest weddings ever witnessed in Fallon was solemnized Monday evening , December 1st when Miss Marjorie Fraser Cole, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D.W. Cole, became the bride of Dr. Edgar Downing of Oakland. Miss Cole was a beautiful bride, her gown and flowers serving to accentuate the natural beauty and charm with which she is so bountifully endowed. At eight o’clock, Dr. and Mrs. Downing departed for Hazen by auto, then took train No. 3 to San Francisco, where they departed on the steamship Sierra, for Honolulu. Here they will spend two weeks’ honeymoon, going thence to Hilo, on the island of Hawaii, staying for a year.

Barton Hoops, Jr., of Philadelphia, a director of the Nevada Wonder Mining Company, stated that the Wonder mill was making the record production of all the mills in Nevada, as it is at present treating 14 tons to the stamp dally by using a coarse screen and regrinding through a Chilean and tube mill, and making a recovery of over 93 per cent of the assay values. 75 Years Ago

The boys were working on the Truckee River Canal chute that carries water into Lahontan on Wednesday, when up flew a mudhen. A clever marksman in the crew brought down the bird with a rock. Jay Harrington, another crewmember, stripped down, dove in and came up with the prize. Frank Gibbs, superintendent, thought he heard an old model T rattling over the rocky drive, but discovered it was Harrington’s teeth chattering.

When the International Livestock Exposition opened in Chicago, champions were on hand to defend their titles. Arthur McArthur, herdsman for Oklahoma A and M College, Stillwater, showed Ashbourne Orange, a purebred shorthorn steer which won grand championship honors last year over thousands of prize beeves.
