The annual Salute to Young Musicians is set for 3 p.m. March 10 in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, according to the Capital City Community Band.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature various youths performing, among them Kerstin Law on French horn. Law is an Eagle Valley Middle School student.

Also featured will be the choirs from Bordewich Bray, Fritsch and Seeliger elementary schools.

"March is 'Music In Our Schools' month, which celebrates the important role of music education," said Richard Doede, Community Band founder and conductor. The salute concert is the band's way of honoring students who enjoy making music, showing them it can always be a part of their lives, he added.

Kerstin Law, daughter of Russ and Mary Law of Carson City, is 12 and in seventh grade at Eagle Valley. She began learning to play violin in kindergarten and began playing French horn in fifth grade at Seeliger Elementary.
