The State Historic Preservation Office will distribute more than $180,000 to government agencies and nonprofit organizations throughout the state including Fallon to support historic building rehabilitation or restoration, public education, surveys, planning, and National Register nominations.

The federal monies were provided by the Historic Preservation Fund (HPF) from off-shore oil and gas lease fees.

Fallon is receiving $40,000 for structural repairs to damaged and failing concrete foundation at City Hall. Other 2013 grant recipients include the cities of Carson, Henderson, Reno and Las Vegas, the Nevada Rock Art Foundation, the Nevada State Museum, Storey County, the Comstock Cemetery Foundation, the Nevada Indian Commission, Nevada State Parks and the Duckwater Shoshone. Projects range from the development of historic preservation plans to the restoration and stabilization of significant Nevada resources.

More information about the projects is available at the State Historic Preservation Office.

The submission deadline for the 2014 HPF grants is close of business on Dec. 6. Applications will be available in October on the State Historic Preservation Office’s website, www.nvshpo.org.
