The Churchill County Democrats are hosting the annual Jefferson-Jackson Dinner at the Fallon Convention Center on Thursday and will feature a speaker from the Nevada State Senate, Debbie Smith.

Fallon’s Shannon Hooper will also be a guest speaker.

As well as being a state senator, Smith has been very active in educational and charitable endeavors such as PTA and Angel Kiss. Hooper is from the Fallon Paiute Shoshone tribe and was crowned Miss Indian Nations in September, in Bismarck, N.D., during the 43rd annual United Tribes International Powwow. She also won the Best Public Speaking Award and the Miss Congeniality Award at the Miss Indian World competition.

In addition to the speakers, there will be a raffle, a dessert auction with special desserts and a silent auction. The J-J dinner is the Churchill County Democrats’ biggest fundraiser of the year.

If individuals have items to donate or would like to buy tickets, call 775-867-4229. The no-host social begins at 6 p.m., and the program follows at 6:45 p.m. with the Churchill County High School NJROTC presenting the colors.

The buffet-style dinner of tri-tip or chicken will be served at 7 p.m. with the help of the CCHS Young Democrats. Tickets are $35 and are also available at the door.
