Discussion of the search for a new superintendent will continue tonight and again on Thursday when the Churchill County School District Board of Trustees meets at the Old High School — in “The Pit” — 690 S. Maine St.

A special school board meeting is set for today to conduct interviews of the three finalists — Edna LaMarca, Jose Delfin and Sandra Sheldon — at 4 p.m. in “The Pit.” Each of the candidates will have two-hour interview sessions with trustees that are open to the public. Candidates were given an opportunity to meet and answer questions from the public in a town hall meeting format on Tuesday night.

Trustees will consider their superintendent decision further during a regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. in “The Pit.” A new superintendent could be selected at this time, although board president Ron Evans said he expected the decision would be made during the board’s next regularly scheduled meeting on April 4.

“I think we’re going to wait,” Evans said last week. “We need to get feedback from people, plus we need time to think about our response.”

The target date for announcing the hire is mid-April. The new superintendent tentatively is scheduled to begin work on July 1.

The search for a new educational leader began last year when then-Superintendent Carolyn Ross tendered her resignation in late June.

As part of the agenda on Thursday, trustees will also discuss or take action on the following items:

In educational services updates, the latest student enrollment data will be presented. Principal Keith Boone will also provide a brief update regarding E.C. Best Elementary School’s “School Improvement Goals.”

Hear a request from Greenwave Booster Club President Kelly Workman to hold the “Night of Boxing” at the CCHS gym.

Consider approval of early retirement incentives under Policy 4811 for Ella Southfield, Cortney Dahl and Teressa Ellis.

Consider approval to hire a Special Education teacher to run the Behavioral Support Unit at Churchill County Middle School.

Presentation regarding 2012 district-wide information technology upgrades.

Summer 2013 bond projects presentation.

Revised job description for superintendent.

Consideration to approve guiding principles to direct the superintendent in work performance.

Revised Request for Proposal document for legal counsel.

Discussion and possible action for superintendent selection from list of three finalists.
