The Carson City Symphony, directed by David Bugli, continues its 30th season with “Sagebrush Celebration,” an official Nevada 150 event set for 4 p.m. Sunday in Carson City Community Center’s Bob Boldrick Theater, 851 E. William St. The featured guest soloist is violinist Andrew Sords in his third appearance with the Symphony, playing Tchaikovsky’s “Violin Concerto.”

The symphony will premiere “Sagebrush Celebration,” a commissioned work commemorating Carson City Symphony’s 30th season and Nevada’s 150th anniversary by Cambridge, Mass., composer Carson Cooman. Also on the program are Bizet’s “L’Arlésienne Suite No. 2” and Bugli’s “Ruby Mountain Reflections,” which incorporates themes of Native Americans, gold, ranching, railroads, and alpine lakes.

Tickets cost $15 for general admission and $12 for seniors, students and Symphony Association members. Admission is free for youth age 16 and younger. Tickets can be purchased at the door or at Play Your Own Music in the Carson Mall or at CCSymphony.com.

Pre-show entertainment by Acoustic Solution will be at 3 p.m. in the lobby. A free concert preview hosted by Bugli will be at 3:15 p.m. in the Sierra Room and will include discussions with Cooman and Sords. A dinner reception is planned after the concert at Garibaldi’s Ristorante Italiano, 307 N. Carson St. For reception reservations, which are required in advance, call the Symphony at 775-883-4154.

A recital to feature Sords and Bugli will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at a private home in Jacks Valley, south of Carson City. General admission is $25; Symphony Association members pay $20; and youth age 16 and under are admitted free. For tickets, go to CCSymphony.com or Play Your Own Music in the Carson Mall or call 775-883-4154. Address and directions will be provided with tickets.
