Christmas plans for organizations, churches

With Christmas less than one week away, some organizations and numerous local churches have made special plans to celebrate the holiday.

Both the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars will be serving holiday meals. The VFW will have its annual Christmas dinner on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the VFW dining room, 405 S. Maine St.

On Christmas Day, the American Legion, 90 N Ada St., will be serving a Christmas dinner from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Prior to that, volunteers will be delivering dinners as part of the Meals on Wheels program. If anyone would like to volunteer to deliver meals or to help serve at the Legion, they should contact the American Legion at 775-423-3008 and ask for Lance McNeil.

Many of Fallon’s churches have also planned events for the Christmas holiday beginning this weekend.

First Southern Baptist, 900 S. Taylor St., has a busy Sunday with a Christmas Cantata at 9 a.m., Sunday school and a potluck fellowship to follow the Cantata. A Christmas Eve candlelight service will be held at 6 p.m.

Oasis Community Church, 1520 S. Maine St., has a Christmas Cantata Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 9:45 a.m. A Christmas Eve service will be held at 6 p.m.

The Christian Life Center, 1435 Kaiser St., will have Sunday services at 10 a.m. A Christmas Eve Candlelight service will be held at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Epworth United Methodist Church, 280 E. Stillwater Ave., will have a live nativity and Christmas Carols Saturday at 2:15-3:30 p.m., Sunday service at 9 a.m., a Christmas Eve service at 4 p.m.-7 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

Parkside Bible Fellowship, 485 Tedford Lane, will have regular services on Sunday and a Christmas Eve candlelight service at 6 p.m.

Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 507 Churchill St., will hold regular services on Sunday. A Christmas Eve service, Holy Eucharist and Vigil at 7 p.m. Christmas day Holy Eucharist will be at 10 a.m.

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1770 S. Taylor St., will have a Christmas Eve candlelight service at 7 p.m. and will be closed Christmas.

Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1191 E. Stillwater Ave., will be having a Christmas Eve service at 5 p.m.

Fallon Church of the Nazarene, 1520 Grimes St., will hold regular services on Sunday and a Christmas Eve service from 6-7 p.m.

These are the only churches that responded.


Holiday closures

All federal, state and local government offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday. No city garbage service on Christmas.

Naval Air Station Fallon is operating on a holiday schedule.

All K-12 schools are closed from Dec. 22 to Jan. 5 with school resuming on Jan. 6.

Financial institutions are closed Thursday. Check with your financial institution regarding any Friday (Dec. 26) closures.

The LVN will be closed Christmas Eve after 3 p.m. and all day Christmas.
