Millard Howe Kahler, Jr. (Kal) died on February 11, 2014 at 17:13 in Cedar City, Utah at the home of his son, Ray N. Kahler surrounded by 19 friends and family. Kal was born in Monrovia, California on September 25, 1920 to Millard Howe Kahler, Sr. and Verda Mignonne Bagley. Kal was the youngest of 3 boys, Albert Wilson Kahler and Newell Barr Kahler.Kal was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol Seegmiller and Danny, both interred at the Cedar City Cemetery. Kal and Carol are the parents of 6 children. All are living except Danny who died in Ely, Nevada, shortly after birth. The children include: LeRoy D. Kahler (Nancy) of Reno, Nevada, William D. Kahler of Kingman, Arizona, Carol Ann Kahler Sherwood of Cedar City, Utah, Penny Lee Kahler Christensen (Laurie) of Lancaster, California, Danny W. Kahler, and Ray N. Kahler (Darcy) of Cedar City, Utah. Kal and Carol have a posterity in 2014 of 133 individuals. Kal was a WWII Iwo Jima survivor and witnessed the flag being raised. He never lost his love for life and was constantly learning. Professionally he was an engineer and retired from the State of Alaska as the Regional Hydrologist. Although he slowed considerably in the last year, he was active up until his death with the local Ham Radio Club, the local veterans club, and as a consultant to the Iron County Water Conservancy District. Kal had the ability to make friends of all ages. He was loved for his kindness, practical solutions to difficult things, and direct communication.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the LDS 8th Ward (Cedar Stake Center, 155 East 400 South, Cedar City, UT). Viewing will be Friday, February 14, 2014 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Southern Utah Mortuary (190 North 300 West). Interment will be in the Cedar City Cemetery, next to his wife and son Danny, under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. Online condolences can be sent to www.sumortuary.com.
