May 5, 1933 - Jan. 29, 2014

Joseph Augustine Esenarro, age 80, of Carson City, NV passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2014. Augie was born in Susanville, California on May 5, 1933 to Jesus and Angela Esenarro who had traveled from their homeland Abandiano, Spain in 1920. Graduating from Lassen High, he then served his Country in the U.S. Armed Forces over seas for several years. Upon his return, he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada and began working for Nevada Bell. Soon after he met and married his wife of 44 years, Dixie Esenarro.Augie and Dixie moved to Carson City where they raised their family. While working as a Project Manager for Nevada Bell throughout Northern Nevada, Augie coached and umpired his kids in both Little League and Bobby Sox and volunteered his time with many organizations in the community. Augie was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and a dear friend who touched many with an open heart and home. He never met a stranger and was always open and willing to say hello with a smile and a good sense of humor. He participated in the local softball and bowling leagues, played racquetball at Capital Courts and swam laps at the pool. Augie enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping throughout his life; teaching his family life lessons and values through experiencing the great outdoors. It was during one of these outings that he earned his native name “Hunts with Slippers”. He was always up for a good card game of Crazy Eights or Domino’s with friends and family. He also enjoyed spending quality time with his grandsons and cheered them on at all their sporting events. Loving to travel, he visited special places with his buddy “BRUTUS”. Together they would often visit sheep camp and attend his annual class reunion, but the destination Augie enjoyed most was his second home in Ely, Nevada. It was there that they would pick pine nuts, gather fire wood and return annually for their hunting and fishing trips with close friends and family. Augie was preceded in death by his father Jesus, mother Angela, son Michael and wife Dixie. Survivors include his son Joseph Esenarro and daughter Deborah Esenarro, daughter-in-law Kim Esenarro and two grandson’s Michael and Joshua, and a brother Louie Esenarro.

A Service will be held at Walton’s Chapel of the Valley in Carson City on Saturday, March 22, at 10:00am, with a Celebration of Life immediately following at the family home. Please join the family in celebrating Augie and the life he created, by honoring his Basque Heritage through a warm meal, sharing many more stories and toasting to good times.
