April 23, 1928 - May 19, 2014

Robert W. Cannon (Bob) age 86, finally lost his battle with cancer May 19, 2014. He was born April 23, 1928 in Los Angeles, CA. Bob was an auto mechanic before enlisting in the CA National Guard in 1947. He was assigned to the 40th division, 143rd Artillery (105 Howitzer). In 1951, “B” Battery 143rd Field Artillery was deployed to Korea for 11 1/2 months where Bob earned the National Defense Medal, the United nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal with 1 campaign star. Bob was discharged in 1952, but later enlisted in the US Army Reserves, 481st Transportation Co, in Rio Vista, CA, where he worked on boats and attained a Senior Marine Engineman rating, before retiring in 1986, moving to Carson City in 1993. Bob loved old cars, racing and working with his hands. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Gary and two sisters. He is survived by his wife Ida and nephew Mike Hagerty. No services are planned, burial will be in the National Veterans Cemetery, Fernley, NV.
