In their first action of the season, the Fallon boys soccer team had a solid showing at the Spring Creek Tournament last weekend.

The Greenwave went 1-1-1 with a 3-2 win over Spring Creek, a 0-0 tie to Elko and a 2-1 loss to Pahrump Valley.

“We had three really nice matches,” Fallon coach Nate Waite said. “We started with good, quality teams. I felt like we matched up really well. There were some good things and some things we can improve on.”

The positive, Waite said, were the rookie goalkeeper Miguel Ruiz, who allowed four goals and had a shutout in his debut.

“I would say he was our team MVP,” Waite said. “He had some fantastic saves.”

Against Spring Creek, forward Fidel Enriquez tallied two goals, while Miguel Saenzpardo buried a free kick. Against Pahrump Valley, Corbin Waite also tallied a goal on a set piece, one area Nate Waite was pleased with how the team executed.

“We are good on set pieces,” Waite said. “There were a lot of shots we got off, from all different spots. We had a lot of different options, which was nice.”

Waite said his club must improve with ball control, see the field, communicate, attack 50-50 balls and a lack of patience.

Conversely, Waite said the strengths were the variety of offensive movement and attack and the potential of the players starting to surface.

“We need to be more patient and move it around a little more,” Waite said. “I think it’s hard because so many guys can pull the trigger. We take good shots when we could take great shots.”

Fallon played at Lowry on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time.
