Safeway promotes Milner to manager

Safeway Inc. has promoted Joshua Milner to manager of its store at 890 W. Williams St. in Fallon.

“We’re very proud and honored to help professionals like Joshua grow and succeed in their Safeway careers,” said Tom Schwilke, Northern California Division president.

Prior to this promotion, Milner rose through the Safeway ranks to courtesy clerk and relief store manager.

Milner enjoys meeting new people, conversing with customers and the day-to-day challenges of the retail environment. Away from the store, he enjoys spending time with his family.

McDonald’s hosts summer book drive

McDonald’s restaurants in Northern Nevada — including Fallon — and The Children’s Cabinet have partnered together to host the I’m Lovin’ It Summer Book Drive. The two-day event will take place June 13-14.

Customers who bring in a new or gently-used book to any participating McDonald’s restaurant throughout Northern Nevada will receive a free vanilla cone for the donation.

All the collected books will then be donated to The Children’s Cabinet who will distribute the books to children and families throughout Northern Nevada.

“We take great pride in supporting our local community and we are thrilled to partner with The Children’s Cabinet for the I’m Lovin’ It Summer Book Drive,” said Robert Humason, a McDonald’s franchise owner in Reno. “The Children’s Cabinet provides tremendous service to the children and families throughout our region and we greatly appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with them.”

Restaurants participating in the I’m Lovin’ It Summer Book Drive reside in the following counties: Washoe, Carson City, Humboldt, Lyon, Douglas, Churchill, Pershing, Mineral and Lander.

In the past year, The Children’s Cabinet has helped more than 11,000 families and has worked to keep children safe and families together since 1985. The non-profit agency provides services, resources and over 30 programs for children.

“The research is clear on the importance of giving young children access to books and spending time reading to children. We are very grateful that McDonald’s supports Nevada’s children and their literacy development and that we have an opportunity to share the donated books with the families and early learning providers that we serve,” said Mike Pomi, executive director at The Children’s Cabinet.

McDonald’s and the Children’s Cabinet currently work together on the Safe Place program, a service available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for youth experiencing violence or abuse. Northern Nevada McDonald’s restaurants are designated as a “Safe Place” for children to go to receive assistance.
