An early morning crash at Sheckler Cut-Off and U.S. Highway 50 sent two local people to the hospital.

The crash happened shortly before 7 a.m. The Nevada Highway Patrol said it appears the driver of a four-door black sedan was attempting a left-hand turn onto the Reno Highway but hit the side of an oncoming car traveling in the eastbound lane.

The NHP said a black Toyota Corolla driven by Jean Burton-Bushy, 54, of Fallon, made a left turn from Sheckler Cut-Off to travel westbound onto U.S. Highway 50, but she failed to yield the right of way. The NHP said Burton-Bushy traveled into the path of a red Dodge Avenger driven by Laura Ward, 50, of Fernley that was traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 50. The NHP said the crash occurred within the intersection.

“Both subjects were taken to Banner Churchill Hospital (by paramedics from Banner) for claimed injuries,” said Trooper Trent Barnes.

He said Care Flight then transported Burton-Bushy to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno.

Fire fighters from the Fallon / Churchill Volunteer Fire Department extricated Burton-Bushy.

The Churchill County Sheriff’s Office responded first followed by the NHP. The Nevada Department of Transportation also assisted with traffic control.
