Children ages 8 to 12 and their parents are invited to join 4-H Youth Programs Expert Jim Barcellos for a messy and fun soil science experiment at the Silver City Park, 385 High St.

Barcellos will lead a hands-on science activity designed to investigate soil science using hydrogels, or water retention granules. Barcellos leads 4-H Club programming activities including Afterschool STEM and 21st Century afterschool enrichment programs and the annual National 4-H Science Experiment. He also served on the advisory council of Partnership Carson City as a member of the Education and Prevention Task Force, and on the professional development and quality committee of the Nevada Afterschool Network.

The event is from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, June 21. Children must be accompanied by their parents or guardians. For more information, call Quest Lakes at 775-287-7598.
