“Jubilate.” A church choir struck on singing the “Jubilate” on the occasion of Easter and sang it with such discord that it struck the good minister in a heap. He fell unconscious over the pulpit onto the chancel rail. The choir may now seek employment in the congenial atmosphere of a concert room or beer hall.

110 Years Ago

Viewed the San Francisco Ruins. Wm. Lindsey, the marble man of Carson, has returned from a trip to San Francisco where he went to view the wreckage and investigate the materials that withstood both earthquake and fire. He furnished a great deal of the materials that went toward constructing the best buildings there. He says the new San Francisco will be a concrete city reinforced with steel. Fire does not shatter this material. The granite and marble buildings went like cheap wooden structures. (Continued on Wednesday.)

Carson City Daily Appeal’s 81st birthday. The Daily Appeal, born on May 16, 1865, was a paper of permanency. It was established by E. F. McElwain, J. Barrett and Marshall Robinson. (Continued on Wednesday.)

Jumping frogs. Frogtown, Angels Camp, Calif. — Almost 300 members of the California Historical Society from all over the state will jump frogs as part of their spring “Romeria.”

20 Years Ago

Historic buildings honored. Places that perpetuate the city’s architectural history will be honored by the Carson City Board of Supervisors. They include the historic portion of the First Presbyterian Church completed in 1864 and linked to Mark Twain. (Continued on Wednesday.)
