Fallon comes close in upset bid

The Greenwave boys tennis team nearly pulled off the upset.

Coming in as the No. 3 seed, Fallon fell short at No. 2 Truckee on Thursday in the semifinal round of the 3A Northern Regional team championship tournament. Truckee won four matches in each of the first two rounds before holding on for an 11-7 win.

Senior Mattia Astori won two of his matches, posting scores of 6-1 and 6-0, while sophomore Alex Perazzo salvaged a 7-6 (7-1) tiebreaking win. The doubles team of juniors Thomas Jamieson and Myles Getto won all three matches (6-2, 6-0 and 6-4), and junior Blake Malkovich and senior Dylan Kubeny won 6-4.

The season continues for Fallon as it will compete in the individual regional tournament this weekend in Truckee. Fallon will field three singles players and three doubles teams with the goal of advancing to state next week.
