The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.

SILVER DOLLAR: To the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program and all the sponsors for making this weekend’s carnival and Independence Day fireworks this coming Tuesday, July 4 a reality.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Carson City Little League for stepping up to the plate every year, including this year, by hosting the District Little League All-Star Tournament in several divisions which is now going on at Governor’s Field. We thank all the volunteers who make the event possible and congratulate all the players who are participating in the tournament.

SILVER DOLLAR: To all the organizers in their effort to make a disc golf course in Carson City a reality.

SILVER DOLLAR: To the USS Nevada nuclear submarine sailors who recently toured the Nevada State Museum and Nevada State Railroad Museum. We thank you for your sacrifice.

SILVER DOLLAR: To all the organizers and participants in the Home and Garden Show.

SILVER DOLLAR: To the law enforcement officers and firefighters participating in the Battle of the Badges blood drive and to all those who have been giving blood.
