Annual bus tour of Carson River Watershed to return June 6-7

A two-day bus tour offering a look at the Carson River Watershed is returning from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 6 and 7.

Sponsored by the Carson Water Subconservancy District, the tour will cover a variety of watershed topics and locations from the headwaters in Alpine County, Calif., to the terminus at the Carson Sink near Fallon.

Among the stops are Carson River restorations in Hope Valley, Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park, The Nature Conservancy’s River Fork Ranch, Quill Water Treatment Plant in Carson City, the Borda Ranch in Lyon County, Buckland Station, Stillwater Wildlife Refuge, and Lahontan Dam.

Experts will cover several topics including water rights, river restoration projects, water quality and quantity, floodplain management, invasive species, tribal programs, agriculture, recreation, fisheries and habitat, and education/outreach programs.

Refreshments and lunch will be provided each day. Videos and discussions will keep travelers informed en route between stops.

The two-day tour costs is $130 on or before May 23 and $150 after that date.
