The Fernley Republican Women will hold its next meeting at the Fernley High School Library, 1300 Highway 95A, on May 16. A light meal will be served at 6. and the meeting will start at 6:30 p.m.

The club will hear from Lyon County Commissioner Ken Gray, who will update us on his plans for 2017.

Gray is a 26-year veteran of the United States Air Force and the Nevada National Guard. After leaving active duty, he joined the office of U.S. Representative Mark Amodei handling issues concerning the welfare of veterans, public lands and defense. He then worked at the Veterans Administration before retiring. Gray was elected as Lyon County Commissioner District No. 3 on Nov. 8 He lives in Dayton with his wife, Kati, his daughters, Katelyn and Hannah, and other members of his extended family.

Additionally, donations are sought for the group’s Caring for America/Adopt-a-Soldier program, which collects non-perishable foods for the Fernley Food Bank along with donations of funds and care items for soldiers.

Children’s books are also being collected for the Ronald McDonald House and Renown Hospital’s children’s ward. Money donations can be sent to Fernley Republican Women, P.O. Box 412, Fernley, 89408.
