With the Fourth of July a little more than than one month away, the Downtown Merchants Association and the Churchill County Parks and Recreation Department are lining up sponsors, vendors and parade entries to this year’s annual event.

In addition to mom, apple pie and the American flag, Fourth of July in Fallon encompasses a wide array of activities for people young and old, ranging from the downtown parade where hundreds of people place their chairs in the shade and watch, to a relaxing family day at the fairgrounds to auto racing and fireworks at Rattlesnake Raceway.

Making a revival this year after a decade’s absence will be bed races. The event begins at 11 a.m. on Maine Street.

Kathy Openshaw of the DMA has been organizing the parade entries this year.

The parade route has not changed and will snake around Fallon beginning at 10 a.m. from the middle school on Taylor Street, heading north to The Homestead, east to the American Legion, south to Williams Avenue and then east to Maine Street. The route then heads south to the middle school.

The themes for “Small Town USA” are Best Use Of Theme, Most Creative, Best Youth Group Best Civic Group, Best Business Entry, Best Mounted Individual Best Mounted Group, Best Farm Equipment, Best Automobile and People’s Choice.

Rounding out the day will be a family day at the fairground’s pavilion and auto racing at the Rattlesnake Raceway northeast of Fallon, followed by fireworks at dusk.
