Fernley Republican Women group honored at national convention

Area resident Anita Trone joined nearly 900 fellow Republican leaders from across the nation Sept. 14-17 at the National Federation of Republican Women’s 39th biennial convention in Philadelphia, focusing on leadership training and GOP unity to secure victories in the 2018 midterm elections.

Anita Trone is the Immediate Past President of the Fernley Republican Women. She attended the event on behalf of the club.

During the four-day event, which centered on the theme “Where It All Began,” delegates and other registrants participated in a series of seminars in the areas of campaigns, elections, issue advocacy and membership and leadership development. They heard from Republican leaders, elected officials and other notable guests, including U.S. Sens. Roy Blunt and Pat Toomey, New Jersey Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno and Kentucky Treasurer Allison Ball.

“Philadelphia is where the greatness and governance of our nation began,” said NFRW President Carrie Almond. “We came here not only to reflect but also to be reminded why we must work hard to rebuild our great nation in unity with our elected officials in Washington, D.C., and our home states, and to prepare for the upcoming midterm elections to ensure Republican victories across the country.”

“It was incredible to have our opening dinner at the National Constitution Center, where we could walk among the beautiful statues of all the founders,” said Trone. “I was reminded of the time that Benjamin Franklin was asked what kind of government was created. He said, ‘A Republic, if you can keep it.’ Keeping our Republic is one of our most important goals and I am very proud of the Republican women’s work in Fernley, in Nevada and the entire nation.”

The convention also bestowed more than 425 awards to clubs — including the Fernley Republican Women — that demonstrated excellence in membership development, campaign activities, community relations, programs and club functions over the past two years.

The Fernley Republican Women were honored with the national Diamond Award for Achievement.

“On behalf of the Fernley Republican Women and our current President, Carol Franich, I was proud to accept the Diamond Award for Achievement at the NFRW Biennial Convention in Philadelphia,” said Trone. “We are a small, but mighty club.

We worked very hard to achieve this prestigious award. As the Achievement Awards Chair for the Nevada Federation of Republican Women (NvFRW), I am delighted to report that the NvFRW won one of the seven Betty Heitman Awards for state excellence in achievement. Of the 17 clubs in Nevada, NvFRW clubs were awarded seven Diamond and four Gold Awards.”

The NFRW Achievement Awards program is designed to enhance teamwork among members of each club, said NFRW Achievement Awards Chair Gwen Ecklund of Iowa. Using the Achievement Awards worksheet as a guide for planning club activities produces a well-balanced club program. It establishes standards of performance for club functions, membership development, programs, campaign activities and community relations.

“An outstanding number of clubs from across the country responded with entries in our biennial achievement awards program,” Ecklund said. “It’s great to recognize these clubs for their achievements, but it’s even more exciting to see the results of their focused programming and outreach in their communities that increase the effectiveness of women in the cause of good government. Reading the award applications confirms the impact NFRW members have in promoting the principles of freedom, equality and justice upon which our government is founded.”
