Salceido brilliant in Carson High softball win over Reno

After a tough start in the first inning, Jaliene Salceido was as dominant as could be for the Carson High softball team in its league opener on Thursday at Reno High.

Salceido retired the last 17 batters she faced as the Senators (3-3) rolled to a 9-4 win. Salceido allowed two runs on two hits in the first, but was perfect after that as she struck out six and walked none over six innings. Salceido had a great all-around day as she went 3-for-5 at the plate.

Salceido was backed by an outstanding offense and defense as the Senators banged out 16 hits and committed no errors. Kedra Luschar and Lauren Lemburg also had three hits for Carson.

Carson had four hits to jump out to a 2-0 lead in the first as Luschar and Salceido singled and Kassidy Cooley and Nicole Brown each followed with an RBI single. After Reno tied the game in the bottom of the first it was all Carson.

Kedra Luschar tripled and Kailee Luschar followed with an RBI single as the Senators took a 5-2 lead in the fourth. Lauren Hawkins and Lemburg singled and Kedra Luschar hit a two-run single as Carson extended its lead to 7-2 in the fifth.

Salceido singled, Amaya Mendeguia doubled and Hawkins and Lemburg followed with RBI singles to give the Senators a 9-2 lead in the sixth.

Hawkins and Kailee Luschar also each had two hits for Carson.
