After graduating from Carson High School, Carlos Torres will begin his next chapter at Yale University.
Torres will head to New Haven, Conn., with a need-based scholarship covering full tuition and housing.
With a 5.3 GPA, Torres has been a shining star at CHS. He has been an active participant in the school's swim team, as well as the Future Business Leaders of America and National Honor Society.
This year was one of the most challenging years to be admitted to Yale University. Yale announced it admitted 2,169 applicants to the Class of 2025. A total of 46,905 applications were received this year, resulting in an overall admission rate of 4.6 percent. Carlos was also accepted to Brown University, Rice University, University of Southern California, Duke University, Dartmouth College, Vassar University, Swarthmore College and Washington University.
Torres grew up in the Carson City School District, entering school as an English Language Learner at Seeliger Elementary School. He later attended Eagle Valley Middle School and then Carson High School. He is a first generation American and college student, following the footsteps of his older sister, who studies at the University of Southern California.
Torres joins fellow CHS senior Cristian Garcia Perez (Dartmouth) at Ivy League schools.
