Fallon senior Lainee Reid finished 17th in last week’s 3A state girls golf tournament in Las Vegas.
Reid shot a 53 on a nine-hole round during the first day and finished with a 102 on an 18-hole round on the second day for a total of 155. Truckee’s Ryan Flynn won low medalist honors with a two-day total of 113. Douglas won the team title.
Reid’s qualification marked the first time the Greenwave competed in a state tournament since the boys basketball team won the championship in February 2020 before the pandemic cancelled spring sports. No state championships were contested during the 2020-2021 school year.

Weather played a major factor in the 3A singles and doubles regional tournament last week.
Originally scheduled to be played in Truckee, the tournament, which started on Friday, was moved to the Reno Tennis Center. However, rain postponed the tournament only 30 minutes into the opening round (boys singles). The boys singles first two rounds finished on Saturday before weather postponed the tournament again to Monday.
The state tournament is this weekend in Las Vegas.
Fallon senior Owen Palmer, the No. 4 seed, advanced to the second round after sweeping Wooster’s Liam Durling, 6-0 and 6-1, but he fell in the second and state-qualifying round. Wooster’s Will Kneibler, the No. 5 seed, ended Palmer’s season in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-3.
Fallon’s Brody Allyn lost his opening round to South Tahoe’s Gabe Smith, the No. 3 seed, 6-1 and 6-1.
In doubles, the Lords brothers of Sammy and Nathan won their first match, 6-1 and 6-0, over North Valleys’ Ricky Iniguez and Christian Lopez. The Lords team, seeded third, was scheduled to play No. 6 Thomas Geary and Forest Wunderlich of Truckee in the state-qualifying round.
In girls singles, senior Kyla Trotter, the No. 2 seed, swept Sparks’ Jane Carbajal, 6-1 and 6-0, to advance to the quarterfinal round. Teammate Ashlynn Gilman lost, 6-0 and 6-0, to Truckee’s Mia Jones.
In girls doubles, No. 4 Kasey Lattin and Thalia DeLaCruz fell to unseeded Erin Yamaoka and Nora Stewart of South Tahoe, 6-3 and 6-3. No. 7 Isabelle Nuckolls and Shiloh Pequeno won 6-2 and 6-4 over Wooster’s Cassandra Buchanan and Bosha Owasu. They face No. 2 Amber Hansford and Naomi Park of Truckee in the quarterfinals.
