The railroad: A gang of thirty men commenced grading near Carson City. There is much heavy work between here and Washoe Valley, over a mile of heavy fill and a tunnel 400-feet long.

All sorts: Miss Cherry Bender became frightened at a mouse and fell down, cutting a severe gash under the left eye.
The plum crop this year will be a wonder. Doc Benton’s trees of several varieties have been propped up under every limb to keep the fruit from dragging on the ground.

All sorts: All the offices in the capital building were closed out of respect of the death of President McKinley.

Moving the plant: The work of pouring concrete from Bowers to Mill Station has been completed by the Heineken Construction company. They expect to move the plant to Lakeview and pour from that point to the finish. The concrete road between Lake view and Reno should be complete by October.

Court of honor: Two Carson City youth will be honored at a ceremony, Larry Sullivan and Billy Holcomb. A court of honor will be presented in the auditorium of the new state office building. The governor and other dignitaries will be on hand. Rotary sponsored Troop 33 is the only in the state that has two Eagle Scouts.

Grading: A gang of Chinamen are at work at the end of the Carson and Reno division of the Virginia and Truckee Railroad. They are grading just beyond the old toll house, near the divide, and three and a half miles from this city.

Press the button: The First National Bank is having electric burglar signals in that connect the bank with the Justice Court and the Constables office. In case of an attempted robbery any one in the bank can press the button. It is a fine idea and should be universally adopted among banks. (Gazette)

Must muzzle dogs: An order was issued in Ely that all dogs must be muzzled. A dog bit a small child and an examination showed the dog had rabies.

Nevada drivers rush to get licenses: The state has cracked down on motorists who drive their vehicles without a license. Director John H. Murray estimates that of the 20,000 motorists a month ago who were driving cars without necessary licenses about half have now obtained required permits. Authorities have been doing spot road-blocks in an attempt to cut the 10,000 figure down to a negligible mark.

Two black boxes found: Investigators pressed to identify terrorist collaborators who may still be in a position to strike more Americans. The agents located critical ”black boxes” from two of the hijacked planes.

Dr. Ah Kee: Ah Kee, a botanical physician of Confusian descent, is a resident of what is known as Chinatown. He prepares powders to whiten ladies faces. The excellent quality of Ah Kees powders has become known abroad and in distant towns.

He never came back: A man by the name of Webb called at Raycrafts’ stable and secured a horse and buggy to drive to the flume. Up to the present time nothing has been heard of the man or the rig. It is believed he went to Reno, disposed of the buggy and went on to California.

Pioneer Days: Ab Ambrose has started the movement and has been on the hustle since the plan took shape. He realized that the pioneer, his trappings, the data and materials are fast disappearing. He is asking that all citizens join with him on this occasion and all who have interest in this city and the west are asked to get in line and boost for Pioneer Day. The governor has announced that the 24th of September will be set apart as Pioneer Day. At the Golden Jewelry store a number of prizes of more than passing value are on exhibition.
