Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong, Sgt. Matt Smith and Deputy Michael Jerauld paid a visit to Western Nevada College’s driver’s education class on Tuesday.
Students were fortunate to learn about the dangers of impaired driving, offensive vs. defensive driving, distracted driving, most frequent infractions committed by drivers, pedestrian crosswalk rules, laws for operating a bicycle on roadways, and recommended distances between vehicles at various speeds.

Sgt. Matt Smith provides driver’s education students with a traffic safety presentation by the Carson City Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday at Western Nevada College. 
Furlong reassured students that the officers who patrol the highways and city streets are doing so to ensure the safety of everyone.Furlong began the presentation with the discussion of pulling over a driver who wasn’t using headlights and emphasized to students the importance of knowing the vehicle they are operating, so safety issues don’t arise when they are driving on the road.
Students spent the better part of the morning asking the officers questions and were provided with useful information unknown or forgotten by many drivers.
