After the pandemic sidelined the event in 2020 and 2021, one of the longest-standing Greenwave fundraisers returns Friday night.

The Night of Fights, which benefits the Greenwave wrestling program, opens its doors on Friday at 5:30 p.m. for early seating at the city-county gym. Fights begin at 7 p.m.

Early-access seating, which is first come, first served and allows guests to choose seating on the floor, is $20 while general admission, which will be admitted at 6 p.m., is $10.

“We’re very excited to have the Night of Fights back after three years. This is a huge fundraiser for our wrestling team, in which it allows us to wrestle in tournaments out of state, hotels and get new gear,” said Greenwave wrestling coach Trevor de Braga. “We’re hoping for a big turnout with it being such a long time since the last Night of Fights. We have a bunch of pretty good students this year and hope to entertain the crowd.”

The annual boxing event features a 12-fight card, including a pair of three-way bouts. Boxers have been practicing this month with Trevor de Braga, Frank de Braga, Dan Shaw and Darren Lewis overseeing. The de Bragas will coach the blue corner on Friday while Shaw and Lewis will lead the red corner.

Bert Serrano returns as the referee while Jared Dooley is serving as the announcer. Judges are Lester de Braga, Mike Merkley, Josh Mauga and John Stritenberger.

The Calcutta, where businesses bid on sponsoring fighters, was earlier in the week at The Grid.
