The Carson City school board on Wednesday narrowed its top preferences for superintendent candidates list to current district chief financial services officer Andrew Feuling and Manchester School District Superintendent Dr. John Goldhardt.
Feuling and Goldhardt will advance for further interviews by the board on Feb. 22 and 23, if needed.
Board members provided brief rationales for their selections after reviewing feedback based on a community survey administered by hosting firm Nevada Association of School Boards made available Thursday through Sunday. The surveys were provided along with videos that had been posted of the superintendent candidates’ interviews last week.
Other community members also provided public comment at Wednesday’s special meeting in support of Goldhardt and Feuling. Many said they believed Goldhardt’s strengths were leading a district representing one of the nation’s top states for education in New Hampshire best qualified him for the position as well as his ability to think outside the box for student achievement.
Others supported Feuling for his current fiscal experience leading Carson City School District and dedication to students and staff.

The motion was approved 6-0. Trustee Stacie Wilke-McCulloch recused herself from the superintendent hiring process last week.
