The last month has seen an uptick in business activity within the City of Fallon. City Engineer Derek Zimney gave a rundown Friday on the latest construction projects. He said Arby’s is being constructed east of U.S. Bank and near Walmart off Casey Road and U.S. Highway 50. John Anderson Construction said Arby’s is scheduled to open sometime after the Memorial Day weekend. According to the city’s permit application, the Arby's franchise is owned by DRG Meats, and the valuation is recorded at $750,000. The new franchise will be a freestanding building with a drive-thru service and patio dining.

Arby’s was previously opened on 1110 W. Williams Ave., but it was one of several businesses in Churchill County that closed in 2009 due to the Great Recession. The Arby’s chain consists of 3,300 restaurants and third in the United States in terms of revenue. In October 2017, Food & Wine called Arby's “America's second largest sandwich chain.” Zimney said Boot Barn will be the newest tenant in the former Raley’s building at 2105 W. Williams Ave., suite B. The western clothing store will be adjacent to Harbor Freight, which opened in late 2020. Founded in 1978, Boot Barn has more than 5,000 employees working in 200 stores across 29 states. The valuation of the remodeling business is $1.3 million according to the permit application. According to the Boot Barn website, “One can buy boots, denim, hats, shirts, belts, dresses, jewelry, and many more other product categories as well. The company also showcases especially the America heritage, with the promotion of mostly American lifestyle brands.”

Raley’s moved from the Valley View Shopping Center to the Stillwater Plaza in 1991. The California-based business changed the store’s format to Food Source in 2011. About 15 months later, Food Source transformed into the Beverage Mart before closing in 2016. Zimney said he didn’t have a definite date for Boot Barn’s opening. Salt Lake City-based Maverik Inc. opened its Adventure's First Stop Fallon store in mid-January 2010 on 850 W. Williams Ave. Maverik has stores in more than 300 locations in 11 western states. According to Maverik, it the largest independent fuel marketer in the Intermountain West. Zimney said Maverik has restarted work to expand its operations west of the existing building. He said two new fueling canopies will be constructed to accommodate recreational vehicles and trucks pulling trailers. Maverik had the adjacent lot excavated, but work was stopped. Zimney said the city was not involved with the delay. The city’s permit application has a valuation of $800,000 for construction. In addition to the commercial construction projects, Zimney said D.R. Horton bought 104 lots on Venturacci Lane and 34 lots behind Banner Churchill Community Hospital to build new homes.
